When I first rescued Gilly, she had a lot of issues with her skin and fur. She had to have special food and I gave her fish oil as well. After a few months she grew a fine, healthy coat. I still give her fish oil though, because it's really dry here and she still as issues with dry skin.
I went to restock, and thanks to a combination of inflation and shrinkflation I could only find a small bottle for $18. Outrageous! I started looking for alternatives and discovered that Costco sells bulk sardines for 12 bucks.
Cheap. Nutritious. Lasts longer than that tiny bottle. Take that Big Pet! or possibly Take that Big Fish Oil!
I haven't been able to make a Costco run while I've been recovering, and yesterday we ran out.
Lady Gilliana has decided that she can't possibly eat her breakfast without her breakfast sardine and has gone on hunger strike. Mind you, this is a dog who has dug a petrified french fry of mysterious origin out of a sidewalk crack and wolfed it down before I could wrestle it away from her. But morning fish-free kibble? NEVER.
I love that dog, but not enough to brave Black Friday at a Costco. Luckily, her hunger strike ended that evening, when she usually eats a fish free dinner, and thus her kibble became acceptable again.
Also luckily, Amazon has bulk sardines they will bring to my door.
